a usually formal, solemn, and binding agreement
In the Hebrew scriptures, an agreement or treaty among peoples or nations, but most memorably the promises that God extended to humankind (e.g., the promise to Noah never again to destroy the earth by flood or the promise to Abraham that his descendants would multiply and inherit the land of Israel). God’s revelation of the law to Moses on Mount Sinai created a pact between God and Israel known as the Sinai covenant.

Genesis 9:11 I will establish my covenant with you that never again will all living beings be destroyed by the waters of a flood, and there will never again be a flood to destroy the earth.”
Exodus 19:5-6 Now if you will pay careful attention to what I say and keep my covenant, then you will be my own treasure from among all the peoples, for all the earth is mine; and you will be a kingdom of priest for me, a nation set apart.’ These are the words you are to speak to the people of Israel.”
Acts 3:25 It is you who are the sons of the prophets and of the covenant which YHWH made with your fathers, saying to Abraham, ‘And in your seed all the families of the earth shall be blessed.’
Until you enter into a covenant, the Laws, Directions, Plans, and Instructions of the thing being agreed upon are not valid. Mainstream Christian Ministers are persuading people every Sunday to enter into a covenant relationship with God without explaining the consequences of breaking that covenant. Saying the “Sinner’s Prayer” and being a good person does not mean you are in covenant with YHWH. The covenant He gave is for us to be called “His people.” If we want to be YHWH’s people, we have to agree to the terms of His covenant which He gives us in the Torah. The sad reality is that many people who have entered into YHWH’s covenant have NO idea what they are obligated to do as their part of the covenant. Because of this fact, it is our belief and opinion that these people, the one’s who truly thought they were doing exactly what they were supposed to do, will be the one’s Y’shua is speaking of here…21 “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord!’ will enter the Kingdom of Heaven, only those who do what my Father in heaven wants. 22 On that Day, many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord! Didn’t we prophesy in your name? Didn’t we expel demons in your name? Didn’t we perform many miracles in your name?’ 23 Then I will tell them to their faces, ‘I never knew you! Get away from me, you workers of lawlessness!’ Matthew 7:21-23« Back to Glossary Index
